An automobile radiator is a good example of a water to air inter-cooler. In a normal radiator, hot water flows through the sealed portion of the radiator and cool outside air flows around the fins and water passages to remove heat from the water. BMW . Sell the car, or the parts? Sell the car, or the parts? I own a 1998 Infinity Q45, and I was wondering whether the car should be sold either for parts, or for the car itself. The condition it is currently in is not optimal, as it has substantial problems with oil leakage, as well as power steering (when adding the PS oil, it tends to bubble up and spill out when running the car). I checked online at KBB, and the private sale for the car at fair (in this case less than fair) would be around 2,855. So let's say if someone were to buy this car at 2,000, would this be worth it rather than having it stripped and sold for parts? Or would that price be too optimistic? car insurance. BMW . How to Convert a Point Distributor to an Electronic IgnitionIn the first decades of the automobile, the control of engine timing and spark distribution was through a cam-operated contact breaker. While simple to understand, these mechanical systems were prone to wear and contact point failure. Periodic adjustments and replacement of parts were required to maintain performance and reliability. Modern electronic ignition upgrade kits replace the mechanical breaker points with self-contained and maintenance-free electronic ignition components. Replacing your old mechanical points is a quick and easy upgrade you can do yourself. Difficulty:Moderately Easy Instructions Things You'll Need Electronic ignition kit Adjustable wrench Flat tip screwdriver Cross tip screwdriver Clean shop rag Step by Step : 1 Disconnect the vehicle battery by removing the negative ( - ) cable at the battery terminal using an adjustable wrench. Remove the distributor cap without removing the spark plug wires from the cap. The distributor cap may be held on with either clips or spring screws. Remove the rotor and examine all components for damage or wear. Replace any worn or damaged components as required. 2 Unscrew and remove the points, condenser and distributor grommet. Clean the breaker plate and point cam with a clean shop rag. Ensure there is no dirt, corrosion or grease on the breaker plate. 3 Install the ignitor module from the kit onto the breaker plate using the screws supplied with the kit. Insert the lead wires from the ignitor through the distributor housing and pull the new grommet into place. Ensure the lead wires are away from any moving parts or heat sources where they may become damaged. 4 Install the magnet sleeve from the ignition kit over distributor shaft. Rotate the sleeve until it drops onto the shaft without being forced. Replace the rotor and distributor cap, making sure everything is aligned properly and nothing is binding. 5 Connect the black wire from the ignitor module to the negative ( - ) side of the ignition coil. Connect the red wire from the ignitor module to the positive (+) side of the ignition coil. The ignition coil can be located by following the center spark plug wire from the distributor cap. Reconnect the battery negative cable to the negative ( - ) battery post. 6 Start the engine and bring it up to normal operating temperature. Set the ignition timing according to the manufacturer's specifications for your vehicle. Tips & Warnings Converting to electronic ignition is a good time to freshen up the rest of the system as well. Replace the spark plugs, plug wires and ignition coil for the best performance and fuel economy.
BMW . How to Troubleshoot a 1991 Dodge 250 TurboThe 1991 Dodge Ram 250 truck came with an optional 5.9-liter, eight-cylinder turbocharged engine. The truck also included many different standard features, such as 16-inch wheels, power brakes, tinted glass, a four-speed manual transmission, four wheel antilock brakes, a front cloth bench and power steering. Options included cruise control, power windows, two-tone paint and power exterior mirrors. One way to fix your Dodge Ram 250 is by learning general troubleshooting techniques. Difficulty:Moderate Instructions Step by Step : 1 Check the clutch disc when you hear the transmission clutch slipping while you drive the truck. The clutch pressure plate may be worn or damaged and need to be replaced. Look also at the clutch assembly to see if the pressure plate surface has become contaminated with dirt, grease or transmission fluid. The clutch cable or linkage could also be improperly adjusted. You should also check the pressure plate diaphragm fingers and make sure that none of them are broken, missing or worn out. The clutch springs may also be missing, broken or weak and should be replaced. 2 Examine the PCV valve on the exhaust system if you see an excessive amount of smoke coming out of your Ram while driving. The PCV valve may be plugged or damaged. Look also at the fuel injectors to see if any are dry or burned or if the injection system is either too lean or rich. 3 Inspect the fuel line assembly of your truck if the engine is emitting a strong gas smell while the engine is running. There could be a leak in the fuel line causing the smell. The fuel filter may have a leak or the fuel pump may have been installed incorrectly. You should also check the fuel injectors inside the engine to see if they are functioning correctly. Also, check the carburetor to ensure that it has not become worn out, faulty or damaged. Tips & Warnings Always check the findings of your troubleshooting efforts with a mechanic knowledgeable about your Dodge Ram truck. He may be able to help you with what parts to purchase or ways to speed up the repairs you need to make. *Crankshaft 13. The driveshaft runs to the rear wheels of conventional rear-wheel-driven vehicles and ends in another set of gears called the differential. The differential turns the power of the engine and the transmission 90 degrees into the axles that connect the drive wheels of the car. Because on most vehicles, the axle is set at right angles to the driveshaft, you can see that the differential is really changing the direction of the power so that the drive wheels can turn. Chapter 9 looks at drive trains and transmissions in detail, and Chapter 17 helps you deal with them. 244

* step-by-step. The ignition system Once your car has started running, the ignition system (see Figure 4-8) con tinues to provide electric current to the spark plugs so that they can provide the spark that causes the fuel to burn. To do so, the current passes from the alternator to the coil, where it is amplified. From the coil, the current goes to the distributor, which directs it to the proper spark plug at the proper time. Chapter 5 examines the ignition system and the rest of the electrical system in greater detail, and Chapter 12 shows you how to keep its various parts working together in harmony. BMW .
